An uncertainty workshop for an uncertain year
SUNDAY JAN 29
1:30 – 5:30
Deadline Jan 23*
Instructor: Pamela Lanza
Bernal Heights Neighborhood
Center 515 Cortland Avenue, San Francisco
Embrace uncertainty & spontaneity, let your
artwork change in mid-course, create
dissonance between the end product & the beginning idea. Instead of documenting a certain concept, experiment with images
that abstract them using removal, hiding and downright lying! Experiment with playful tension & suggestiveness, psychological space, contradiction & layered meanings that open all manner of possibilities for future work. Using mixed media, collage, and transparency on paper and wood,
discover methods & techniques for generating & grappling with ambiguous images that say the unsaid & augment the
meaning of the visual experience. Use your own photographs, drawings or writings as transparencies
that you layer, re-work and re-compose over vastly different backgrounds.
“The artist wants to
know what things seem to be.” (Bertrand Russell)
Workshop Fee - $150. I provide paint, acrylic medium, ink, water-soluble
crayons, string, fiber paper, a selection of collage materials, Rives paper, & wood panels. You bring your own transparencies,
additional collage material, & basic tools (such as pencils, pens, scissors, etc.).
